CMS posted the DRAFT version of the MDS Item Sets that LTC providers will use this October. That includes the swing bed item set (SP).

CMS said: “Please note that Section G has been removed from all Federal item sets.” The MDS 3.0 Item Set Change History for October 2020 report is posted on their website.

THIS HEIGHTENS THE IMPORTANCE OF FUNCTIONAL GAIN LANGUAGE FOUND IN SECTION GG. Make sure both nursing and therapy understand Medicare intent for their documentation.

Please note the change to MDS v1.18.0. It will take effect October 1, 2020.

Included are all MDS items including the Optional State Assessment (OSA) that will be used for state Medicaid systems adapting PDPM as its reporting system.
